Same box. Same price. One letter of difference. Here's what it actually means.
Titleist has sold the Pro V1 and Pro V1x side by side for over two decades, and most golfers pick one based on which sleeve their hand landed on. That's a shame, because the difference is real and it's easy to understand.
The one-sentence version
Pro V1 flies lower with less spin on long shots and feels softer.
Pro V1x flies higher with more spin and feels slightly firmer.
That's it. Everything else is a footnote.
Which one fits you
Play the Pro V1 if:
- You already hit the ball high and want to bring flight down
- You spin your irons plenty and don't need more
- You prefer a softer feel off the putter
- You fight a ballooning ball flight in wind
Play the Pro V1x if:
- You hit the ball low and want more height and carry
- You want the ball to stop faster on approach
- You have a steeper angle of descent and want to take advantage of it
- You prefer a slightly firmer, more responsive feel
The test that settles it
Forget the launch monitor for a second. Do this instead:
Buy a sleeve of each. Play nine holes with one, nine with the other. Pay attention to two things only — how the ball behaves on approach shots into greens, and how it feels on putts.
Those two things account for almost all of the practical difference. Distance off the tee between the two is close to negligible for most golfers.
Whichever one made your approach shots stop where you wanted — that's your ball.
The bigger question first
Before you agonize over V1 versus V1x, answer the one that actually matters: how many balls do you lose per round?
If it's more than three or four, neither. Play a value ball, get the count down, and come back to this decision when the premium ball stays in play. There's no performance advantage in a ball at the bottom of a pond.
